Amit PhansalkarMassachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) has appointed three new team members in its Customer Analytics and Research Division, including former Kantar Media exec Amit Phansalkar, who joins as Vice President and Chief Data Scientist.

Founded in 1851, MassMutual provides a range of financial products such as life insurance, disability income insurance, long term care insurance, retirement/401(k) plan services, and annuities.

In his new role, Phansalkar (pictured) takes charge of the Analytics team. He joins with more than fifteen years’ big data experience, and most recently worked at Kantar Media, prior to which, he co-founded and served as VP Analytics at Cognika. In his new role, he reports to Gareth Ross, VP, Analytics and Research.

Reporting to Phansalkar is Sears Merritt, who takes up the position of Assistant Vice President and Data Scientist, with a remit to extract knowledge from consumer data sources. He joins with nearly a decade of experience working with big data and modeling systems, and most recently served as a Consulting Data Scientist and Researcher at the University of Colorado.

Additionally, Trevor Morgan joins as a Consultant, from his former role as an Analyst and Data Scientist at WPP-owned online behavioural measurement firm Kantar Media Compete, where he worked for the past three years.

Commenting on the three appointments, EVP Michael Fanning said: ‘These gentlemen bring another level of depth to MassMutual’s ability to access, analyze and interpret massive amounts of non-traditional data. I am confident that their conceptual thinking, logic and data-driven analysis skills make them excellent additions to our company, valuable resources for our business and assets for our policy owners.’
