John HitchcockIn the US, employee-owned research provider Westat has appointed John Hitchcock as a Principal Research Associate for Education Studies.

Rockville, Maryland-headquartered Westat offers data collection and management, clinical trials, statistical research and survey methods, and evaluation services to help clients improve outcomes in health, education, social policy, and transportation. As well as additional operations across the US, the firm has offices in Liberia, Costa Rica; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Bangkok, Thailand.

Hitchcock (pictured) joins with mixed methods evaluation experience, particularly those used to understand interventions designed to support students with special learning needs. He previously worked at public sector-focused research provider Abt Associates as Principal Associate; and has served as a co-Principal Investigator on several randomized controlled trials. During his career, Hitchcock has also contributed to the development and application of research standards under the Institute of Education Sciences' What Works Clearinghouse; and he served as Research Director for the Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia; and Director of the Center for Evaluation & Education Policy at the Indiana University School of Education. In addition, he was Associate Professor of Education Research and Evaluation at Ohio University.

Hitchcock has co-authored more than 60 works on advancing mixed methods research and other topics, including a handbook he is currently working on as lead editor: The Routledge Handbook for Integration in Mixed Methods Research.
