Archive of Market and Social Research (AMSR)

April 25 2022

Elizabeth NelsonIn the UK, the Archive of Market and Social Research (AMSR) has named Elizabeth Nelson an Honorary Trustee, in appreciation of her guidance, support and commitment to building the archive.

Launched in 2016 and supported by the MRS, the Association of Qualitative Researchers (AQR), and the Social Research Association (SRA), the AMSR aims to catalogue and preserve resources tracing the development of the market and social research industry from the 1930s to the present day - with records such as significant studies, technical developments, survey results, biographical details, and published papers, journals, books and newsletters. It currently collects records, both physical and digital, all of which need to be assessed and collated, and this data is housed by The History of Advertising Trust, which will make the archive available to the public.

Nelson (pictured) is a Founder Patron of AMSR and was a trustee from 2016 until her retirement at the end of March this year. She was educated in the USA and London, where she gained a PhD in Clinical Psychology and founded and chaired TNS from 1965 until 1992. In 1997, she was awarded an OBE for services to ecolabelling; in 1993, she was awarded the MRS Gold Medallist for signal service to the profession; and she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women Who Make a difference International Women's Forum in 2011. Three years ago, the MRS launched the 'Liz Nelson Award for Social Impact', to recognise projects that have benefited deserving causes, had a positive impact on society and demonstrated the power of research outside of the commercial sphere.
