Survey Analytics Powers Obama Brainstorming Site

In the US, Seattle-based Survey Analytics has been awarded a White House contract to develop a new 'open government brainstorming' web site for President Obama's administration.

The new Open Government Dialogue web site (www.opengov.ideascale.com) uses Survey Analytics' IdeaScale community management solution as a platform where citizens can offer suggestions and discuss ideas for increasing openness and transparency in federal government. It will also contain a tool which allows participants to vote on other users' ideas, search the ideas, and spread their opinion via e-mail.

Hosted by the Office of Science & Technology Policy and the National Academy of Public Administration, the solution will enable the White House to hear people's ideas on open government, including approaches to policy, law, technology, culture and practice.

The current brainstorming session - which is open until May 28 - will provide ideas that will feed into two additional stages. A discussion phase will take place next, where the top-rated ideas will be explored further. After this, a draft phase will commence, where members of the public can edit the language for their final recommendations.

Survey Analytics CEO Vivek Bhaskaran said that because of First Amendment free speech protection, the government is not allowed to delete any public comments submitted to the site. Around 200 requests per second (a combination of votes, comments, and page views) are currently being received.

The firm offers a range of online tools including online survey software QuestionPro; e-mail distribution list manager ContactPro; and online polling service micropoll.
