CIA to Use Visible Technologies Tools

In-Q-Tel, the US Government's investment arm, has commissioned social media monitoring firm Visible Technologies to provide the CIA with tools to monitor the millions of posts and conversations on social media such as blogs, YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter.

The CIA: scanning social mediaThe deal will allow the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) to use the firm's tools to automate analysis of conversations relating to national security issues.

Visible Technologies monitors around 500,000 web sites each day, to gather information from more than one million posts and conversations and help commercial clients gain insight from social media conversations about their products or brands.

'Visible Technologies' platform is key to understanding the breadth and depth of the online social landscape,' said Troy Pearsall, EVP of Architecture and Engineering at In-Q-Tel. 'Its platform delivers a clear and comprehensive view of complex information, integrating real-time data into a navigable and easy-to-use application that understands the context and tone of online dialogue.'

The firm recently launched truPULSE, which includes features to listen to social media content in twelve languages; assign and track conversational tone; uncover trends and comparisons; manage and promote postings; and receive alerts on specified topics.
