Adobe to Restructure with 750 Job Losses

November 9 2011

US software giant Adobe - which owns web analytics firm Omniture and online audience behavior specialist Demdex - has announced plans to restructure its Digital Media and Digital Marketing teams, cutting around 750 staff in North America and Europe.

Mark GarrettAdobe, which is best known for its Flash, Acrobat and Photoshop software, acquired Omniture in 2009 for around $1.8bn. Since then, the firm has acquired Demdex to help advertisers and publishers deliver relevant digital experiences to their customers, and has just launched an AudienceResearch solution, providing metrics on the size and engagement of audiences for web sites, mobile apps and digital magazines.

These brands sit in Adobe's Digital Marketing team, which provides tools to manage and measure digital marketing activity.

As part of the shake-up, Adobe is planning to focus on extending the division's analytics capabilities into areas such as mobile and social, and personalizing digital experiences across all digital channels. In addition, the team will drive multichannel campaign management and help content publishers to segment and monetize their audiences.

Adobe says the restructure is being initiated to 'better align' resources around these two areas, which will lead to around 750 redundancies and c.$70-75m in employee severance costs. Additionally, there will be c.$87-94m in pre-tax charges, which include c.$17-19m relating to the consolidation of leased properties.

Mark Garrett, EVP and CFO comments: 'We believe that by focusing resources on two large initiatives and shifting our business model, we can drive faster and more predictable growth in FY2013 and beyond.'
