June 26 2013

In the US, technology sector benchmarking firm Gleanster Research has appointed Ian Michiels as Principal and Managing Director, with overall responsibility for the company's direction and day-to-day operations, combined with an analyst role.

Ian MichielsEvanston, Illinois-based Gleanster, which was launched by former Aberdeen Group VP Jeff Zabin in 2010, combines survey responses from a panel of tens of thousands of senior industry practitioners with input from its own team of research analysts, to benchmark practices in technology-enabled business initiatives. The company offers 'Gleansight' benchmark research reports and deep dive analyst reports which uncover how and why organizations invest in technology; and also aggregates white papers and research reports from third-party sources.

Michiels (pictured) joins from advisory and technology consulting firm MarketSphere, where he served as VP of Advisory Services in the Marketing Operations Practice. Prior to this, he also worked at market research firm Aberdeen Group as Group Director of its Customer Management Practice.

Commenting on his new role, Michiels said: 'Gleanster's methodology and go-to-market approach offer a refreshing blend of market statistics and unbiased recommendations. Gleanster democratizes analyst coverage giving all solution providers an opportunity to gain the recognition they deserve.'

Over the next year, the firm plans to expand its research coverage into IT security, human capital management, enterprise resource planning, data management, and supply chain and procurement.
