In the US, ad tech company Audience Partners has received a patent for proprietary technology allowing political campaigns to use voter registration records and other data to target digital advertising.

The patented technology facilitates the use of publicly available voter registration records and demographic political data - such as party affiliation, voting history, and political geography - to target and place ads and messaging across millions of web sites, mobile apps, and multiple digital devices.
