Fashion Forecaster WGSN Forms JV in China

US-based fashion trend analysis and forecasting specialist WGSN has formed a joint venture with industry association the China Textile Information Center (CTIC), in order to further develop its business across the Chinese market.

Jose Papa NetoWGSN uses analytics and custom research techniques to study fashion season trends across apparel, accessories and interiors. In 2013, the firm acquired Latin American consumer behavior forecasting firm Mindset Communicaco e Marketing, whose expertise has now been combined with the trend forecasting and technology tool StyleSight, to create a consumer insight and market strategy service under the Mindset brand. An additional product, StyleTrial, uses big data analytics and consumer panels to predict the likely performance of fashion items.

The company currently has more than 500 clients in China, acquired in partnership with CTIC, and offers the full suite of WGSN products, with trend services provided in Chinese. CEO Jose Papa Neto (pictured) comments: 'With its distinct language and culture that connects with western fashion influence, we believe that China requires highly specialised local expertise to maximise the value of our products and services. We plan to drive significant growth and value for the WGSN business through our focus on the market, and as long-term strategic partners, and excellent local insight providers, there is no better partner to help us do this than CTIC'.
