French Love Their Hondas

June 21 2005

Honda-owners are the most satisfied motorists in France, according to new consumer satisfaction survey. While Honda is the most satisfying brand to own, Toyota and BMW have snapped up the best car awards.

The first French Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) study from J D Power and Associates and L'Automobile Magazine measures 16,000 French motorists' satisfaction with quality and reliability (38%), vehicle appeal (22%), costs (20%), and service (19%).

Honda scores a total of 819 out of 1,000, doing particularly well for quality/reliability and service satisfaction. BMW, a favourite for vehicle appeal, follows closely with a score of 816.

Individual model winners are as follows.

  • Toyota Yaris Verso (small car)
  • Toyota Corolla (lower medium)
  • BMW 3 Series (upper medium)
  • BMW 5 Series (executive/luxury)
  • Toyota Land Cruiser (SUV)
  • Mazda Premacy (MPV)
No French cars top the list but French manufacturers can remain optimistic. Both Peugeot and Renault perform particularly well for costs, and score above the industry average for overall satisfaction.

'The study shows a wide gap between the vehicles that give high levels of satisfaction and those that do not, suggesting that there is room for the industry to do more,' said Stuart Crawford-Browne, Research Manager at J.D. Power and Associates in Europe.

The company is online at www.jdpower.com. Full results of the study are in the June 21, 2005 edition of L'Automobile Magazine ( www.automobilemagazine.com ).
