WebSideStory Counters Patent Infringement Claims

February 9 2006

US web analytics firm WebSideStory has responded to the patent infringement lawsuit filed earlier this week by NetRatings, stating that the claims are without merit, and saying it will defend itself vigorously against the complaint.

NetRatings alleges that WebSideStory has infringed five of its patents relating to the collection, analysis and reporting of computer usage activity (www.mrweb.com/drno/news5137.htm ).

Jeff Lunsford, Chairman and CEO of WebSideStory, said: 'As a pioneer and technology leader in web analytics and digital marketing, WebSideStory takes intellectual property very seriously. However, we believe these claims have no merit. In addition, WebSideStory has issued US patents of its own in the web analytics space. We are currently reviewing all of our legal options and intend to aggressively defend our position.'

NetRatings currently has similar actions pending against Coremetrics, Omniture, SageMetrics and Sane Solutions.
