Power Info to Fuel Used Car JIT System

J.D. Power and Associates' Power Information Network (PIN) has announced a strategic alliance with
Driveitaway, a web-based remarketing company providing profiles of used fleet and leasing cars. The deal uses PIN's daily vehicle retail transaction information to provide dealers with a 'Just-In-Time' (JIT) stock system.

PIN collects and analyses new- and used-vehicle sales data from more than 10,000 automotive dealership franchises in North America. The deal will give dealers online access to six- to nine-month-old rental vehicles still under factory warranty at fixed wholesale prices, eliminating the need for bidding or travelling to a physical auction location – although the partners do not expect it to supplant the auction altogether.

Mike Biwer, VP of Development and Operations for PIN, says the system will allow dealers to 'quickly identify and purchase vehicles to stock their lots' using 'the industry's first intelligent Internet remarketing platform for end-of-term vehicles.' He continues: 'The concept is similar to the just-in-time department store model in which retailers order precisely what customers are buying now. In this way, supply and demand are quickly matched with a new level of efficiency.'

Driveitaway Founder and President John Possumato says the partnership means consumers can find well-maintained, low-mileage used vehicles quickly, while automotive retailers can match inventory levels with their demand... The bottom-line impact ... is that more vehicles will sell earlier in the cycle to dealers that have identified customer interest.'

Franchise automobile dealers in Florida, Arizona, Nevada and California will be the first in the country to participate in the program.
