US-based provider R. L. Polk & Co has acquired the Automotive Information Centre (AIC), a division of online automotive retailer Autobytel, which produces company data on all major vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.
The purchase is part of Polk's strategy to grow the firm's price and specification service by adding North American information to its network of resources. Under the terms of the deal, Autobytel will be licensed to use AIC data with its autobytel.com, autoweb.com, carsmart.com and car.com web sites.
Commenting on the transaction, Stephen Polk, Chairman, President and CEO of Polk & Co said: 'This acquisition will provide significant value to our customers on a global scale. As we integrate AIC's business into Polk, we will leverage other core assets to change the way customers perceive and use price and specification information in their business.'
Polk is based in Southfield, Michigan, with operations also in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, Thailand and the UK, and is on the web at www.polk.com . Autobytel's web site is at www.autobytel.com .
