Business and consumer data firm infoUSA, which owns Opinion Research Corporation (ORC), is to compile a database of addresses for every business in the UK, updated by means of 2-3 million telephone calls per annum.
The project will be managed in-house from the group's Manchester office. The database will contain information from a variety of publicly available sources in addition to the calls, which will gather proprietary information including the name of each business owner or manager, number of employees per location, web address, years established and whether the business is a single location or part of a larger company.
Once completed, the database will be sold through an online, subscription service and licence agreement.
Richard Cornelius MD of ORC's UK arm, ORC International, explained to DRNO that the rationale for what will be known as 'infoUK' is essentially to replicate - as appropriate - the services of infoUSA into the UK market.
infoUSA recently posted record revenue of $160.1 million, including $50.1 million from ORC (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7127.htm ). Web sites are at www.infoUSA.com and www.opinionresearch.com.
