ORC Survey Highlights Employee Gripes

According to Opinion Research Corporation's (ORC's) latest 'Ouch Point' survey, lack of communication from managers is a chief complaint among US workers.

Seventeen percent of respondents cite senior managers who fail to communicate company news as their major bugbear.

'Communication can be the centrepiece of a great organisation or the Achilles heel.' said Terry Reilly, Director of the firm's US Employee Research Practice. 'Management's choice is pretty simple. Either they provide the information or employees will fill in the blanks on their own - usually with erroneous information.'

The study also highlighted the requirement for political correctness at work as one of the biggest frustrations, cited by one in ten American employees. Meddling co-workers irritate just 6% of staff, while those in the 18-24 year age bracket who are beginning their careers cite lack of teamwork (26%) as their major irritant. Just 4% of staff are bothered by corporate monitoring of email and telephone calls.
