Cheil UK Names New CEO

May 13 2020

Full-service data-driven marketing agency Cheil UK has promoted David Coombs to the role of Chief Executive Officer, following Peter Zillig's resignation in February to take up a new client-side opportunity. Coombs will take over the position on 1st July.

David CoombsCheil UK, which creates data-driven experiences across the entire customer journey, offers a range of services around data and insight, retail marketing, content and social media, and eCommerce. The firm is part of agency network Cheil Worldwide, which has 53 offices and eight affiliates in 42 countries globally. In 2018, Cheil Europe relaunched its agency model, with a focus on customer experience (CX) and a reorganisation into five data-driven disciplines and divisions.

Coombs (pictured) joined four years ago as Head of Planning, and is currently Head of Strategic Services, serving as part of Cheil UK's senior management team and reporting directly to Zillig. He was previously Head of Planning & Strategy at AKQA; Digital Strategy Director at OMD; and Group Digital Strategy Director at Work Communications. Earlier, he spent seven years at TMP, latterly as Head of Online Media UK & Ireland.

Zillig will remain at Cheil until the end of June in an advisory position, after which Coombs will lead the UK team of nearly 200 employees. Byunghoon So, Cheil's European CEO & President, comments: 'It's been a pleasure working alongside Pete who has created significant growth and change in the business during his tenure. Dave's digital heritage and strategic mind make him the ideal candidate and obvious choice to continue this growth story for Cheil UK'.
