Meta Promotes for New Chief Data Officer Role

July 2 2026

Facebook parent Meta has moved its CMO Alex Schultx into the new role of Chief Data Officer, with longtime Meta marketing exec Denise Moreno replacing him as CMO.

Alex SchultzSchultz (pictured) was Marketing Manager at eBay before joining Facebook / Meta in 2007. He held growth marketing and analytics roles until becoming CMO in 2020 - a title he held alongside that of VP Analytics. In 2021, he and his team led the rebrand from Facebook to Meta, and as VP of Analytics he built and runs Meta's data science and data engineering teams. He has also been responsible for user research, competitive intelligence and insight. He is based in London, and holds an MSc in Natural Sciences from Magdalene College, Cambridge, specialising in experimental and theoretical physics.

Perhaps more importantly than any of this, he is the author of Planes that Fly, a guide to the successful construction of paper airplanes, which sold 150,000 copies (one to the Thomas household - Ed.) via M&S.

In his new role Schultz will primarily focus on AI analytics. He comments on LinkedIn: 'That starts with building better data foundations, but extends all the way through AI-powered analytics, experimentation, research and decision-making.' For the next six months, Schultz' focus will be on building a semantic layer across the group's data warehouse.

Moreno joined the company in 2009 and most recently served as global SVP of Consumer Marketing and Growth.
