New MCAPI Software

February 5 2002

The latest version of the Entryware MCAPI (Mobile Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing) software features a host of new functions for market research applications. The 3.0 release has now been finalised and is available immediately. Entryware Pro is developed by Techneos Systems, and SPSS MR is the authorised global distributor for the market research industry.

There are over 30 new features in Entryware version 3.0. According to Richard Kottler, VP of SPSS MR's Product Directions, 'Entryware is now a fully-fledged CAPI tool and has the unique capability of running on very affordable and highly mobile handheld computers.'

Within the first half of 2002, Entryware products will be able to read and write data via the SPSS MR Data Model, enabling information to be easily shared with other applications that support the Data Model, such as SPSS MR's Dimensions technologies. Development is also underway to make Entryware questionnaires fully multilingual - one user in China is already conducting surveys in Chinese with the software - and this will become a standard feature in Entryware.

Highlights of Entryware 3.0 new features include:

  • New response types available - numeric grids, categoric grids and open-ended grids for multiple response questions -gives a complete range of response types to choose from and helps to use the screen space more efficiently.
  • Randomise or rotate response lists - reduces the bias that can result from the order of responses.
  • Questionnaire wording based on responses - automatically insert a response, such as a brand name, into subsequent question or response text so that specific response can be further explored.
  • Response item filtering - includes or excludes a response that was selected in a previous question to make questionnaires more dynamic and logical.
  • View questions on a PC as they appear on a handheld computer - saves time for questionnaire author because there is now no need to download the survey onto the handheld computer to check screen layout.
  • New self-completion features - ideal when asking respondents to complete questionnaires themselves.
  • Optional larger font size - makes questionnaires easier to read on the handheld.
