MrWeb Appoints Michael Kenyon as Director of US Operations

February 20 2003

MrWeb, the publisher of Daily Research News and MRWho, has appointed Michael Kenyon to the new post of Director, US Operations. The move follows a successful year in which the company has consolidated its no.1 position in the UK research job ads market and broadened out into new areas.

Michael was President of Projections Inc. and subsequently Vice-President of Gartner Custom Research. He has also been a principal corporate officer in three leading US research organisations and been associated with three of the world's largest advertising agencies. Michael, who has also been active in many domestic and international research associations, is currently ESOMAR's representative for the Western US. He can be reached directly via email at michael.kenyon@mrweb.com and by 'phone on +1 503/641-7277.
Michael Kenyon looking unusually serious
According to Nick Thomas, MD of MrWeb, the appointment reflects a buoyant mood in the dotcom company, which celebrates its fifth birthday later in 2003: 'January saw a highest-ever 280 new vacancy ads on MrWeb and new advertisers are arriving at a rate of 2 or 3 a week. We have been looking at the potential for expansion outside the UK for a couple of years, particularly the US and Australia, and feel confident that we can get similar interest there'. The Australian audience has grown well without recourse to someone 'on the ground', but the US market is bigger and considered a little more difficult to reach.

'Michael is an old acquaintance of ours', says Nick Thomas, and well known in the UK industry, but also has a great range of contacts and experience in the US, including time spent running his own company, working for large organisations and helping out with various industry bodies and associations. Furthermore, he shares our enthusiasm for MrWeb and its potential, having been a subscriber since 1999. He was too good an opportunity to miss'.

Kenyon will remain based in the Portland, Oregon area and help build US content and contacts, working with MrWeb's staff in London and DRNO Editor Nicky Hardy. His initial task is to advise on new US-specific content and help to build the audience - there will be a brief initial period of free vacancy advertising for US companies and a longer one for directory entries.

To help launch the new American initiative, the upcoming edition of MRWho will lead with an article on how US researchers work with their counterparts in the UK and entitled 'The Bond Across The Pond - MR's Special Relationship'.
