AQR International Conference

April 15 2003

The Association for Qualitative Research (AQR) in the UK has announced the speaker line up for its second international conference set to take place in Lisbon between 30 April - 2 May 2003.

'The Qualitative Imagination: How Research Impacts Strategy' will be co-hosted by the AQR and its US counterpart, the Qualitative Research Consultants Association (QRCA). This is the second time that these two organisations dedicated to commercial qualitative research have joined forces and the conference provides an important global forum for anyone with an interest in qualitative research.

The theme of the conference recognises the growing importance of qualitative research as an industry and assesses the impact of strategic qualitative thinking for clients. Keynote speakers include Bill Stack, Chief Operating Officer, CompleteTV, and Mark Whiting, Director of Market Research, Hennessy (France). Other presenters drawn from Europe, the US and Canada include Philly Desai, Turnstone Research; Leslie Hallam, Chaos; Neil McPhee, MORPACE International; Sue Ince, EPIC Consulting; and Marilynn Jacobs, 'O', The Oprah Magazine.

Via formal presentations and interactive workshop sessions, a wide range of key issues currently affecting the international qualitative research industry will be put under the microscope. Diverse topics include:

  • Why qualitative research keeps underselling its strategic potential
  • The theoretical implications of brand essence
  • How qualitative approaches can be combined with quantitative techniques to heighten strategic impact
  • New product development: The rigorous creativity approach.

Anne Ward, Co-Chair of the organising committee, AQR, commented, 'We are delighted to be working with the QRCA once again to host this international conference. Qualitative research is a fast-moving and expanding industry and the aim of this Conference is to explore new areas of qualitative research and examine its future potential. We hope that this year's event will build on the success of our first international Conference in 2001 to provide an informative and enjoyable occasion for everyone who attends.'
