Change at the Top for ORC International

October 4 2003

ORC International has announced that Nigel Maxfield, MD since November 1997, is stepping down from the position while Richard Cornelius, Deputy MD since 1997, takes over as MD. Maxfield will remain on the Board, take responsibility for a key account and work on new business development, initially in the public sector.

As Deputy MD, Cornelius has had specific responsibility for business-to-business, financial services, IT / telecommunications and international research in the UK. He is a member of both the UK Board and the Worldwide Managing Board.

Maxfield will continue to work closely with the directors from his Manchester base, where he started his career with the company in 1983. He has commuted to London for the past six years.

Maxfield explains his decision to step down as a combination of two main factors: 'I felt that after six years it was a good time for new leadership to drive us to the next level. On a personal level I wanted to be able to play a more supportive role with my children, one of whom has recently started her GCSE courses and the other his first year at senior school'.

He adds: 'I remain very committed to the company and am confident that we can continue to prosper under Richard's leadership, together with Rory MacNeill, appointed as his deputy'.

Commenting on Maxfield's decision on behalf of the UK Board, Cornelius said: 'Nigel has done a remarkable job here during the last six years - fitting together two very different companies and creating a new brand which is now perceived as a credible force in the industry. He has been responsible for the successful integration of all the business components, including major office relocations in both London and Manchester. And under his leadership, the company has enjoyed increased profile and excellent revenue and profit growth. So while I do feel sad that he has made the decision to step down, I am also delighted that he is remaining with the team. Nigel will continue to play an important part in building the company's future'.
