Nielsen Global Connect Names First CFO

June 3 2020

Shopper data and insights business Nielsen Global Connect has appointed Tribune Media veteran Chandler Bigelow as its first Chief Financial Officer.

Chandler BigelowNielsen announced last year it would create two independent publicly traded companies: Nielsen Global Connect (similar, but not identical to the former 'Buy' segment - providing data analytics for the consumer packaged goods and retail sectors), and Nielsen Global Media, including most of the old 'Watch'. In the first quarter, Nielsen Global Connect reported a 2.7% decrease in revenues to $717m (an increase of 0.3% on a constant currency basis), with Measure revenues falling 5.4% to $510m (or 2.3% in constant currency terms). Nielsen says the latter reflects the impact of COVID-19 on retail measurement services in markets that are heavy in traditional trade. However, its Predict/Activate revenues increased 4.5% to $207m on a reported basis (7.3% at constant currency), which Nielsen says primarily reflects the January 2020 acquisition of Precima.

Bigelow (pictured) joins after 21 years at Tribune Media, where he oversaw all aspects of finance, including treasury, pension and risk management, investor relations, financial reporting, SEC reporting/compliance, internal audit and tax. He also helped manage the spin-off of Tribune's newspaper publishing business, and served as Tribune's representative on the Boards of CareerBuilder, Classified Ventures, TV Food Network and The Cooking Channel. Having begun his career with corporate crisis management specialist Abernathy MacGregor Scalon, Bigelow then co-founded investor relations firm Brainerd Communicators and worked for software company Spyglass, before joining Trribune.

Nielsen Global Connect CEO David Rawlinson says it is 'an honor' to welcome Bigelow to the firm: 'Chandler brings extensive leadership and financial expertise, with a consistent track record of creating value. I believe he will be a key asset to our success, as we advance towards operating as an independent, publicly-traded company and define the next century of consumer and market measurement'.
