A leading Australian social and market research organisation is seeking a hands-on technical leader to manage a specialist data engineering team delivering large-scale government and social research projects.

This role is ideal for someone with deep experience working with complex survey datasets in a market or social research environment who enjoys combining technical problem solving with team leadership.

You'll remain close to the work - developing data pipelines, automation tools and reusable packages - while mentoring a high-performing technical team and driving continuous improvement across major research programs.


The Opportunity

Leading a team of Data Scientists and Data Operations specialists, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a growing technical data team
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across major longitudinal and ad-hoc research projects
  • Design, build and optimise scalable data processing pipelines
  • Develop reusable scripts, packages and automation tools
  • Manage complex survey datasets from multiple data sources and APIs
  • Ensure accuracy, quality and methodological integrity across all outputs
  • Partner closely with researchers and internal stakeholders to solve complex data challenges
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, efficiency and technical best practice.

This is a technically sophisticated environment working with large, complex datasets and high-quality standards, particularly across government and social research programs.


About You

To be successful, you will bring:
  • Experience working within a market research, social research or survey research environment
  • Strong hands-on experience processing and managing large-scale survey datasets
  • Advanced programming capability in R and Python
  • Strong SPSS/Q skills and working knowledge of SQL and Git
  • Experience building data pipelines, automation workflows and reusable packages
  • Excellent data wrangling, cleaning and transformation skills
  • Prior experience leading, coaching or mentoring technical team members
  • Confidence acting as a senior technical specialist and trusted advisor
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Experience with platforms such as Forsta, Confirmit, Decipher, Quantum or Quancept will be highly regarded.
