A leading Australian social and market research organisation is seeking an experienced Data Operations leader to manage a specialist technical team delivering large-scale government and social research projects.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with deep experience working with complex survey datasets in a market or social research environment.
You'll combine strong technical capability with some team leadership/mentorship experience, helping drive high-quality data operations, automation, package development and continuous improvement across major research programs.
The Opportunity
Leading a team of Data Scientists and Data Operations specialists, you will:
- Lead and mentor a growing technical data team
- Oversee delivery across major longitudinal and ad-hoc research projects
- Build and improve scalable data processing pipelines
- Develop reusable scripts, packages and automation tools
- Manage complex survey datasets from multiple data sources and APIs
- Ensure accuracy, quality and methodological integrity across all outputs
- Partner closely with researchers and internal stakeholders.
This is a technically sophisticated environment with large, complex datasets and high-quality standards, particularly across government research projects.
About You
To be successful, you will bring:
- Experience working within a market research, social research, or survey research environment
- Strong hands-on experience processing and managing large-scale survey datasets
- Advanced R and Python programming capability
- Strong SPSS/Q skills and a working knowledge of SQL and Git
- Experience building data pipelines, automation workflows, and reusable packages
- Strong data wrangling, cleaning, and transformation capability
- Prior people coaching, leadership or team management experience
- Confidence operating as a senior technical lead and trusted advisor
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Experience with platforms such as Forsta, Confirmit, Decipher, Quantum or Quancept will be highly regarded.
