Job Spec:

Impact and economic evaluation; sustainability and the environment.

This is a rare opportunity for an established impact and economic evaluation specialist to join this successful, impressive, ambitious and fun team, with a focus on the environment, sustainability and energy. We're talking hot topics including net zero, industrial decarbonisation, fuel poverty, energy efficiency, air pollution...

Much as experience in these policy areas would be ideal, the team is open to evaluators with experience in other policy areas so long as there is a genuine interest - so this is an opportunity to focus on an area where you may have a real passion - and to make a difference to this hugely important area.

The focus is on evaluating the impact and effectiveness of public policies, programmes and interventions and to draw conclusions and provide recommendations to help set policy priorities, improve effectiveness and strengthen delivery. The work focuses on impact and economic evaluation.

Working with a very impressive client list including government departments, climate change agencies, charities, EU bodies and global organisations, the projects this team undertake tend to be large scale, both in terms of challenge and budget. The work spans UK-focused work and global programmes (around 25% of their work is European/international).

To give a flavour, recent projects include: a survey helping understand the scale of shared natural resources and public attitudes in relation to them (this was in conjunction with an international government and some extremely high profile public figures were involved in the commentary); research around industrial de-carbonisation; informing the national waste strategy; people's perceptions of ocean health; a thought leadership piece around net zero living (they do lots of thought leadership)...

This is a very international team with people from Ecuador, Brazil, Greece, Spain... - they love this diversity. It is a very friendly, supportive, and ambitious team - there is a lot of autonomy (no micro-management!) and a really collaborative atmosphere where they are all ready and willing to help each other out. They also have a great social calendar if you are looking for that.

The role will see you managing large scale and high-profile impact and economic evaluation projects and directing smaller projects yourself. You will be designing robust evaluation approaches, frameworks and methodologies at both bid and inception stage and then overseeing the delivery of these projects, managing a team. Your work will incorporate impact evaluation (quasi-experimental and/or theory-based), process evaluation, value-for-money analysis, and data analytics. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining client relationships.

The successful candidate will have a background in delivering impact and economic evaluation in a commercial/agency environment across a wide range of techniques. We need to see experience of managing and delivering programmes to timescales and budget and of writing or inputting into proposals. Candidates must have a track record of and enjoy being client facing. As importantly we need to see a real passion for environmental public policy development.

This prestigious team is well known and recognised for their robust methodologies, innovative approach and strategic outputs. A highly innovative and forward-thinking environment, this is a place for people who love to take ownership and make things happen - you are given autonomy, with support to do just that. The people here are genuinely curious and interested in what they do. The training on offer is second-to-none and development opportunities, here and overseas should you wish, are huge.

As a result of all this, people stay - they talk about being challenged, consistently offered new opportunities, being listened to, and enjoying being in a culture where anyone at any level can have an opinion and lead on projects.
