Job Spec: We're looking for a mixed-methods researcher with a passion for, and expertise in communications research to join a high profile charity, working in the mental health/addiction space. The role will suit you if you are naturally curious about people, enjoy tackling new challenges, and want to make an impact with insights generated through research.

You will work with a creative, award-winning marketing team at the heart of a growing charity to support the development and delivery of the flagship national behaviour change campaigns. Working to the Director of Marketing, you'll be responsible for delivering research and evaluation activity needed to inform the effective delivery of behaviour change campaigns and programmes. The communications research to date has helped ensure the team's campaigns and brand strategy have been evidence lead and robust. This has helped consolidate the brand portfolio, re-brand and launch its largest ever marketing campaign.

Key focus:

  • Develop calls for proposals for commissioning research and evaluations, drawing on the expertise of internal colleagues, SMEs and external partners.
  • Agree project milestones, research outputs and key milestones with communications and research teams to provide the framework for monitoring of delivery, in conjunction with programme management colleagues.
Manage a robust quality assurance process of research produced by commissioned teams and its alignment with the Research Brief by providing support, comment, and input at all stages of their implementation of the research, including research design, ethics, literature review, instrument development, recruitment/data access and analysis.
  • Coordinate and communicate with expert steering groups, obtaining their advice to ensure the quality and impact of research.
  • Facilitate the peer review process and check and comment on interim and final research reports and outputs as necessary.
  • Maintain oversight of project budgets ensuring delivery against project milestones and payment schedules.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally with stakeholders including, for example, government policy makers, researchers and academics, practitioners and people with lived experience.
Responsibilities:
  1. Lead on the end-to-end commissioning of communications research related projects, such as creative development research, brand tracking, public polling, UX testing, and campaign evaluations
  2. Facilitate the translation and implementation of key findings / insights from research to inform communications and set up sessions to bring the wider organisation up to speed with core insights.
  3. Conduct quick-turnaround internal analysis of key data to provide team with accurate data points and insights.
  4. Conduct in-house analysis of key communications-based data sources (e.g., Google Analytics, owned Social Media platforms, automated brand tracking)
  5. Maintain and update the overview of the communications-based research and evaluation portfolio, determining organisational priorities.
  6. Maintain up to date knowledge and expertise in innovative and best practice in evaluation methods and approaches, acting as an advisory resource for colleagues.
  7. Ensure clarity around roles and responsibilities and ways of working internally, regularly appraising, and finding ways to improve approaches and outputs.
  8. Ensure the appropriate systems are embedded for the delivery of evaluation through engagement with colleagues and externally, including those with lived experience.
