Job Spec: This successful and highly regarded global research agency is looking for a dynamic senior researcher to lead on high profile studies which inform policy and service delivery across all aspects of transport and infrastructure, both within government and with NGOs, charities and transport operators.

This role will see you directing some of the most complex and high-profile studies across rail and road, aviation and active travel, including broad questions about the way our transport and infrastructure system operates and how it is used. This includes environmental sustainability and decarbonisation, the role of transport in society and communities, the impact of developments on businesses and the economy, active travel and public health and wellbeing... a very broad range of challenges and questions.

It offers the opportunity to take full responsibility for the quality and delivery of these studies, including large, multi-year programmes, from design through to delivering outputs. A focus on quality and innovative thinking are critical here. The client is looking for a highly capable expert in either quantitative or mixed methods research.

The commercial side is a key part of this role: writing winning proposals including making pricing recommendations and identifying opportunities for continued growth, supported by the wider team. Experience of government procurement and the associated processes is vital.

The role will suit someone who enjoys developing a strong understanding of client needs, who has excellent communications skills and can work in a collaborative way with internal teams and suppliers and who has a supportive approach to team leadership. It will also suit a someone who enjoys leading on multiple projects, who can deliver quality in a profitable way, including during busier times.

Experience in transport and infrastructure policy would be nice to have, but is not essential. The critical elements are method expertise, client leadership skills and a strong commercial track record.

As well as the opportunity to work on some of the most important research programmes in these critical and interesting areas, you will work with highly respected experts - this agency is very much 'full service' and home to many people widely seen to be leading the field. You will be in a team which is motivated and dynamic, in a culture where you are given head-space and autonomy and which offers both brilliant learning opportunities and a very strong and flexible package.
