TNS Wins Four-Year Euro Contract

July 25 2011

TNS has been awarded the Flash Eurobarometer contract by the European Commission and European Parliament, beating four rival bidders. The four-year contract could be worth up to EUR 60 million.

EC Taps TNS for BarometerToday's win concludes an extensive tender process and the new contract begins immediately. Flash Eurobarometer surveys are ad hoc, rapid response projects based on thematic telephone and online interviews and are conducted by units of the European Commission and the European Parliament in order to understand consumer attitudes in the EU's 27 member states, on a wide variety of topics. TNS already holds two related contracts, for the Standard and Qualitative Eurobarometers, which use qualitative, face-to-face and telephone research.

The Flash Eurobarometer contract was held until 2005 by EOS Gallup Europe and from 2006 onwards by The Gallup Organization Europe (Gallup Europe). The latter has included more than 80 Flash Eurobarometer surveys with over 1.2 million interviews, on subjects from the Euro to consumer protection, and from higher education to energy policy.

Judith Passingham, TNS' CEO Northern and Eastern Europe, comments: 'Our team proposed a very efficient and highly innovative approach to data collection and project management across all our key markets. This is exactly the type of high profile, multi-country project where TNS performs exceptionally.' Leendert de Voogd, the agency's Global Head of Political & Social, adds: 'The European Institutions understand the importance of undertaking research to develop deep insights, not only to support its decision making, but also to evaluate the progress of policies and inform communications strategy.'

TNS is part of Kantar, within WPP and is online at www.tnsglobal.com .
