Apple Acquires AI-based Big Data Firm DataTiger

February 15 2019

Apple has acquired London-based big data analysis firm DataTiger, according to a report published by Bloomberg. As usual with its buys, Apple has not disclosed the terms.

Philipp Mohr and Pulitha LiyanagamDataTiger was founded two years ago by CEO Philipp Mohr and CTO Pulitha Liyanagam, who previously worked at Barcelona-based interactive games developer King. The firm offers an online tool for importing data and setting up user flows, and it is currently building a proprietary artificial intelligence-based marketing solution for processing large volumes of real-time data. This technology can be used for sending personalised material to consumers, including push notifications.

A regulatory filing in December shows that Apple now owns Operatedata, the operating name of DataTiger. Additionally, Apple's Corporate Law Director Peter Denwood is now listed as one of DataTiger's officers. Apple previously acquired German eye tracking company SensoMotoric Instruments, Israeli facial recognition technology Realface, Indian machine-learning startup Tuplejump, Seattle-based AI specialist Turi, and San Diego facial analysis firm Emotient.
