New Funds for Voice-based Survey Platform Phonic

October 6 2021

Toronto-based voice and video research tech firm Phonic has raised $2.2m in a seed round of funding, which it will use to officially launch its platform.

David Ferris and Mitchell CatoenSet up last year with an initial $150k seed funding round, Phonic is used by academic and consumer researchers for conducting qualitative research. Through the platform, users can record spoken respondent feedback; collect feedback through respondent videos; and record screens to watch users interact with online experiences - encouraging them to speak aloud as they test a new feature, demonstrate a bug, or complete some online action. Surveys can be customized with a variety of 'high contrast' themes, colors and fonts; and customized client welcome and logo images can be displayed in the upper-left corner of the platform.

The firm's new funding was led by Tola Capital, with participation from Supernode Global, Y Combinator, Zillionize, Remus Capital, and other undisclosed investors. With this investment, Phonic plans to expand its engineering and go-to-market team and finance product development.

Phonic, which was co-founded by CEO David Ferris and CTO Mitchell Catoen, is online at: www.phonic.ai .
