MR is Not Rocket Science But... There Are Transferable Skills

November 19 2004

Analysis and consulting firm IHL Consulting Group has appointed Jerry Sheldon, a former rocket scientist, to their research team. Sheldon joined Pratt & Whitney in 1992 and worked in the company's space propulsion division, specialising in fracture mechanics.

He graduated from Georgia Tech University with bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering, to which he added a master's degree in business administration from the University of Miami whilst working at the technology firm.

Sheldon's work at Pratt & Whitney involved the study of materials used in the construction of rockets and the Space Shuttle to determine how long each material could last under pressure and stress. IHL, on the other hand, provides market analysis and business consulting services for retailers and information technology companies that focus on the retail industry - but Sheldon sees parallels between the two. 'Retailers and technology professionals face a similar challenge in our data-intensive world: namely the need to gather data, synthesize that data and quickly act on it. My focus will be on enhancing the data analytics of IHL's databases and research studies to allow our customers to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions in very specific and actionable ways'.

Greg Buzek, President of IHL, considers it 'a real honor' to have Sheldon on the team. 'Jerry is one of those unique individuals that is not only brilliant but relatable, a combination that is a true asset when doing research, looking for trends / relationships and then communicating that information to our customers in an actionable way that is easy to understand'.

IHL is headquartered in Franklin, Tenn., and is online at www.ihlservices.com
