University Place for New Rep Data Tool

August 14 2025

In New Orleans, research data and fraud prevention solutions firm Rep Data has announced the launch of ResearchU, a self-service sampling and survey platform built specifically for university researchers.

Specially for academic research teams…Rep Data was founded in 2019 by former Lucid and Research Now exec Patrick Stokes (pictured), as a provider of full service data collection for quant studies. Just under two years ago it acquired data quality and anti-fraud software platform Research Defender, whose software matches respondents to relevant surveys and prevents sample fraud / duplication; and it also offers Research Desk, a centralized DIY sampling platform that enhances efficiency and data quality.

ResearchU, powered by the Research Desk engine, is designed to help academic teams quickly field nationally representative surveys in the United States, offering a combination of deep sample vetting, automated national quotas, and the firm's core fraud detection technology. Features include single-click access to pre-built, nationally representative US quotas; self-service ordering, 'lowest costs, and remarkable feasibility' across more than 250 sources; and the ability to hand off to Rep Data Research Services for complex sample needs.

'ResearchU was built with academic realities in mind' states Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Rothe, '- tight budgets, looming deadlines, and the need for absolute data integrity. We've taken what works in commercial research and made it accessible and affordable for universities that can't afford to compromise on quality.'
