Buy Brings New In-Survey Anti-Fraud Tech to Rep Data

Rep Data has acquired ReDem, an in-survey data quality solution, strengthening its end-to-end survey fraud prevention offering.

Rep Data was founded in 2019 by former Lucid and Research Now exec Patrick Stokes, and offers a centralized DIY sampling platform called Research Desk; as well as an anti-fraud software platform, Research Defender, whose software matches respondents to relevant surveys and prevents sample fraud / duplication. Last month, the New Orleans-based company separated its Product and Technology leadership to encourage 'clearer accountability, greater focus and faster execution.'

ReDem has developed AI-driven scoring models which assess open-ended response quality, timing patterns, coherence and duplicate behavior. The resulting scores support real-time data cleaning and reduce the need for downstream manual cleans. Following the acquisition, the firm's services will still be offered as a standalone, as well as being integrated with Rep Data's software for bundled offerings that combine pre- and in-survey data quality solutions.

Both Research Defender and ReDem's real-time, in-survey response evaluation are designed to detect and block bots, AI-assisted survey takers and other high-risk behavior, and the firms say they will work together to create an end-to-end approach to data quality that addresses risks before and during fieldwork.
