New Chair for B2B Data Group Informa TechTarget

Informa TechTarget has appointed Patrick Martell as Non-Executive Director and Chairman. Based in New York and currently the CEO of Informa Markets, Martell takes over this week from Mary McDowell.

The acquisition of US-based b2b purchase intent specialist TechTarget by UK company Informa Plc was first announced two years ago, but was only approved by shareholders late in November 2024. The British b2b services group paid $350m in cash to combine its digital businesses - including Omdia and Information Week - with tech publisher and advertising / lead generation specialist TechTarget, taking a majority stake in the new company.

Before joining Informa in 2014, Martell (pictured) served as CEO of St Ives, the UK printing group which he helped transform into a marketing services company, including through the acquisition of consumer insights specialist Incite. He began as Chief Executive of Informa Intelligence, leading expansion and a complex restructuring process, then moved to the new role of Group COO in 2018 following the acquisition of UBM. After the successful divestment of Informa Intelligence in 2022 he became CEO of Informa Markets in 2023. He also served as the Senior Independent Director and Remuneration Committee Chair at RM plc until the end of December 2023.

Announcing the change, Informa TechTarget said McDowell's knowledge of the group's businesses from her previous non-executive role as Senior Independent Director of Informa PLC (and prior to this as Non-Executive Director of UBM plc) made her 'the ideal Chair' of the company through its now-completed combination program.
