MD Tom Johnson has been promoted to CEO at UK-based trend tracker and insight agency Trajectory, after more than sixteen years at the company.
Johnson (pictured) joined Trajectory as an intern in 2009, fresh from his MA in English Literature at King's College London, and says he has 'never wanted to work anywhere else.' He was promoted to MD in 2018. His expertise includes qual and quant research, including research with vulnerable consumers - and a suite of futures techniques, particularly horizon scanning, scenario planning, PESTLE analysis and Delphi. In addition to leading bespoke client projects, he oversees the firm's proprietary research, which includes its international consumer values monitor, Trajectory Global Foresight and the monthly UK consumer sentiment barometer, The Optimism Index; is editor-in-chief of the Now & Next membership service and author / editor of the seminal Slow Futures newsletter.
In his new role he replaces co-founder Paul Flatters who is moving to the role of Executive Chair, while co-founder Michael Wilmott steps down as Chair but will remain a Director.
Separately, the company has recently joined standards body the British Polling Council. Trajectory has a long history of monitoring political trends, but says 'with Reform continuing to lead in national polling the prospect of a radical change in government at the next election is looking more possible,' and therefore 'The value in understanding political trends has never been greater.'
