British retailer Marks & Spencer has appointed former dunnhumby MD Matt McLellan as its new Director of Loyalty. He joins from supermarket rival Morrisons where he has been Chief Customer Officer for the past year; and replaces Jade Sharpe who has left to set up her own consultancy.
McLellan (pictured) joined Safeway as a graduate in 2001, and moved to dunnhumby less than three years later as a Client Manager. He stayed at the loyalty data pioneer for more than fourteen years and latterly served as its Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, having early served in MD roles in China and elsewhere in Asia. He was then Group Customer Propositions Director at Tesco for eighteen months and a VP at Asda for five years. He joined Morrisons just over a year ago, and combined the title of CCO with that of Group Customer, Data and Marketing Director.
Marks & Spencer has recently relaunched its Sparks rewards scheme, to meet customer demand for a more personalized experience and 'pounds, not points' - McLellan will bring valuable experience from leading the design and launch of Asda Rewards. In the new role re reports to Sharry Cramond, M&S Marketing Director for Masterbrand, fashion, home and beauty, and loyalty, who said in a memo to staff last week, 'Matt has extensive experience of using data and insights to put the customer first and drive long-term profitable growth in large multinational retailers.'
