Clare GilmartinUK marcoms and sports marketing group Chime Communications has appointed eBay leader Clare Gilmartin as non-executive Director, as Richard Alston prepares to stand down from the Board at the end of 2013.

Chime is the holding company for a portfolio of PR, advertising, marketing, and design companies, along with its Insight and Engagement division is made up of Opinion Leader Research, Facts International and Watermelon Research.

Gilmartin (pictured) is currently VP of eBay Europe, responsible for the company across the region. She joined in 2005 as Head of Strategy & New Business, prior to which, she spent three years as a Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, and she worked as a Category Manager at Unilever.

Lord Davies, Chairman of Chime Communications, commented: ‘We had a stated aim to re-shape the Board in order to align the members with our growth strategy. Clare is a high calibre individual, with experience of one of our key success drivers - to meet the challenges of the digital world. I'm sure Clare will make a great contribution to our future.’

Alston has been a Chime non-exec since 2008. During his career he served as the Australian High Commissioner to the UK from 2005 to 2008, and earlier, he was Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts in the Australian Federal Parliament, Senator for Victoria, and Deputy Leader in the Senate. Since 2004, he has been an Adjunct Professor of IT at Bond University Queensland. Additionally, he has served on the Boards of listed Australian companies Hansen Technologies, UCMS, and he was Chairman of Broadcasting Services Australia. Prior to entering Parliament, he practised as a barrister.
