Nicole SeligmanThe Board of marcoms giant WPP has named existing Non-Executive Director Nicole Seligman as its Senior Independent Director.

Seligman (pictured) takes up her new role after fifteen years at Sony Corporation of America, where she initially served as SVP and General Counsel, and subsequently took on the additional roles of General Counsel of Sony Corporation, President of Sony Corporation of America and President of the Sony US Entertainment Business, with oversight of international corporate governance standards. She stepped down from her Sony roles a week ago to 'pursue other professional interests'.

Her career has also included roles in law, business and journalism, including serving as Associate Editorial Page Editor of the Asian Wall Street Journal; Law Clerk to Judge Harry T Edwards at the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and then to Justice Thurgood Marshall on the Supreme Court - serving as counsel for Lt. Col. Oliver North during the Iran-Contra hearings in the 1980s and for President Bill Clinton during his 1999 impeachment trial; and Partner at the law firm Williams & Connolly LLP. In addition, she serves on several not-for-profit boards, including the New York City Center, The Japan Society, and the Columbia Journalism School Board of Visitors.
