Ellen BroomeIn the UK, social research organisation NatCen (The National Centre for Social Research) has appointed Ellen Broomé as Director of Children and Families.

NatCen carries out research into all areas of social policy, including health, crime, education, employment, travel, social attitudes and families. Broomé (pictured) most recently served as CEO at Coram Family and Childcare, a national charity in the field of policy, research and advocacy on childcare and family issues. Earlier, she worked for The Children's Society as Director of Policy and Public Affairs; was Public Affairs Officer at The National Autistic Society; and CEO at Hill & Knowlton, having earlier been a researcher for Labour politicians Stephen Byers and Gareth Thomas.

Commenting on her appointment, NatCen's CEO Guy Goodwin said: 'We have exciting plans to launch a Centre for Children and Families next year. Ellen's arrival is a first step towards us making a wider contribution to the understanding of key contemporary issues for children and families. We are delighted to have attracted someone of Ellen's calibre and policy and public affairs expertise to lead this important part of NatCen's work.'
