Karyn SpencerIn the US, influencer marketing platform and content creation solution Whalar has hired Karyn Spencer for a newly created role, SVP Partnerships, based in Los Angeles.

Client brands use Whalar's platform to search, communicate and collaborate with its handpicked community of Instagram content creators. Spencer (pictured) joins from US retail giant Target, where she led talent partnerships and influence marketing, and launched an annual influencer initiative, #TargetTalent. Prior to this, she was VP of AT&T's Hello Lab, through which social media influencers develop cross-platform programming. Earlier, she was Head of Creator Development at video hosting service Vine (later acquired by Twitter); having previously led multi-platform social media content strategies for NametheAudience, and worked for actor-entrepreneur Ashton Kucher's production company Katalyst Network.

In her new role, Spencer will be responsible for expanding the company's relationships with both brands and creators. Neil Waller, co-founder and CEO, comments: 'Karyn is one of the original leaders in influencer marketing, having proven her ability to pair incredible brands with the world's freshest creators. Her background in merging brand marketing with both traditional and digital entertainers demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges that marketers face in today's environment, and she knows how to break through the noise'.
