Cegedim Buys Hospital Researcher HMSL

July 30 2009

Healthcare specialist Cegedim Strategic Data (CSD) has acquired Hospital Marketing Services Ltd (HMSL), a leading provider of hospital based patient and promotion data analysis, via its subsidiary CSD UK.

The buy, finalized last Friday with internal financing, will add HMSL's hospital panels and studies to CSD UK's GP patient data analysis. HMSL has annual revenues of more than £1 million sterling and will have a positive impact on Cegedim's second semester 2009 accounts.

Founded in 1993, HMSL works in the UK for many of the major multinational pharma companies. Founder and MD Peter McLeod will remain active with CSD UK management for the near future, helping with integration.

CSD UK was formed in 1999 from the combination of Compufile Ltd, the CAM Group and EPIC, and focuses on longitudinal patient data studies; it also audits GP and hospital based promotional investment, conducts observational medical research and provides quant and qual surveys.

'This acquisition enables us to augment our GP patient level analysis with hospital level patient data' says CSD Regional VP Christopher Wooden. 'It fits perfectly with our local UK business and provides opportunities for international expansion.'

CSD is a subsidiary of Cegedim SA, and operates in more than 58 countries, integrating primary and secondary analyses with its medical expertise. Web site: www.cegedimstrategicdata.com .
