IMS Health to Launch Oncology Quantifier

November 12 2009

Healthcare intelligence provider IMS Health is planning to launch an analytical tool that enables firms to assess treatment opportunities and guide commercial decisions in the $48bn global oncology market.

Oncology under the research spotlightThe new 'IMS Oncology Quantifier' combines IMS Health tools MIDA and Oncology Analyzer, to measure treatment patterns and advance market research initiatives.

It will offer insight into oncology product uptake and treatment patterns, including therapies most often prescribed in leading markets, their effectiveness in treating specific types of cancer, and their impact when used for new or future indications.

By integrating IMS's patient-level diagnosis and treatment information with product sales data, the new tool provides market growth projections and utilization levels for drugs used to treat 27 types of cancers.

'IMS Oncology Quantifier brings together our extensive information assets and expert analysis for a complete view of this growing and highly complex therapeutic class,' stated Steven Gavel, Global Director of Oncology. 'Through a better understanding of treatment trends and market dynamics, our clients gain invaluable insights.'

The new tool, which will be available from January 2010, will cover the US, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain and Japan - countries that represent more than 90% of the global market for cancer treatments.

It is the latest addition to IMS Specialty Solutions portfolio of market intelligence services, focused exclusively on specialty pharmaceutical market requirements and challenges.

Earlier this month, IMS Health agreed to be sold to private equity firm TPG Capital and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) for $5.2bn.
