Former Nielsen & Arbitron Chiefs Join Innerscope Board

In the US, biometric and neuroscience provider Innerscope Research has appointed former Nielsen Media CEO John Dimling and former Arbitron President, Chairman & CEO Stephen Morris to its Board of Advisors.

John Dimling and Stephen MorrisBoston, MA-headquartered Innerscope combines neuroscience and biometrics with its own proprietary software, to measure and analyze audience engagement with any media stimulus. The firm recently became the first neuroscience-based biometric company to be validated by the Advertising Research Foundation's (ARF) research review process.

Dimling joined Nielsen Media Research in 1985, and served as its President and CEO through to 2001, continuing on as Chairman Emeritus until 2008. He also served as Chairman of the Board for NetRatings (now known as Nielsen Online) and as Interim Chairman of Nielsen Entertainment. Under his direction of Nielsen's national TV ratings service, the firm introduced the Peoplemeter, and Dimling also developed the organization's initial roadmap for measurement on mobile screen and online technologies.

Prior to Nielsen, Dimling was Executive Director and CEO of the Electronic Media Rating Council, and held leadership positions with the Advertising Research Foundation, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Association of Broadcasters.

During his 17-year tenure of leadership at Arbitron, Morris led the company through a transition from paper and pencil measurement of radio audiences to the PPM electronic platform, which can be used to measure audiences for radio, TV and the Internet. He took the company public in 2001 through a reverse spin-off from Ceridian Corporation.

Prior to Arbitron, Morris spent 18 years with General Foods and founded two companies - VidCode, a media company that tracked broadcast commercials, and Spectra Marketing, a segmentation and targeting system (now part of Nielsen Claritas). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Advertising Research Foundation.
