Nielsen 'Sues comScore' Over Web Measures

March 22 2011

Nielsen has reportedly accused comScore of violating five of its patents relating to the collection, analysis and reporting of information about online activity.

Measurement patents infringed? The complaint was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Virginia, according to www.hollywoodreporter.com . Among the patents on which Nielsen says comScore has infringed is one for a 'Computer Use Meter and Analyzer' over which the paper says Nielsen itself was once sued by Jupiter Media Metrix - a dispute settled by a $15 million cash payment to Jupiter by Nielsen//NetRatings in exchange for the patents in question.

The latest lawsuit requests an injunction against further infringement, damages, and fees for Nielsen's attorneys.
