In the US, Gartner's research division has reported record contract value - up 14% to $1,036m in Q3 2011. Revenue rose 17% to $345.8m compared with last year's Q3, while net income climbed 52% to $30.5m.

Gene HallGartner employs around 1,200 research analysts and consultants who provide analysis and interpretation of the IT industry to executives in more than 80 countries. During the third quarter, revenue in its research division was up 19% to $256.0m, compared to the third quarter of 2010. Client and wallet retention rates for the period were 82% and 100%, respectively, up from 82% and 95% a year previously.

In the consulting arm, revenue increased 8% to $70.8m, while in the events division, revenue rose 18% to $19.0m.

CEO Gene Hall commented: 'Our third quarter results continued our trend of delivering consistent double-digit growth. The increases in our revenue and contract value, as well as the expansion of key operating metrics such as wallet retention, illustrate both the value we provide to our clients and the market opportunity for our services.'
