IBM Boosts Big Data Analytics with Vivisimo Buy

April 26 2012

IBM has acquired Pittsburgh, PA-based Vivisimo, which provides software to help users access and analyze big data across their organisation. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Arvind KrishnaVivisimo software captures and delivers information across a broad range of data sources, helping with the sourcing itself and allowing employees to navigate it with a single view across the enterprise.

IBM says combining this with its own big data analytics capabilities will further its ability to automate the flow of data into business analytics applications, helping clients better understand consumer behavior, manage customer churn, and perform data-intensive marketing campaigns. Big Blue says its big data offer blends traditional data management technologies suitable for structured, repeatable tasks with complementary new technologies ideal for data exploration, discovery and unstructured analysis.

Arvind Krishna (pictured), General Manager, Information Management, IBM Software Group, comments: 'Navigating big data to uncover the right information is a key challenge for all industries. The winners in the era of big data will be those who unlock their information assets to drive innovation, make real-time decisions, and gain actionable insights to be more competitive.'
