Nielsen Buys Out Romanian Retail Firm

According to reports, Nielsen has bought the remainder of Romanian company Retailplus Eastern Europe from co-founder Octavian Badescu. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Octavian BadescuFounded in 2001, Retailplus provides retail audits and in-store observations to monitor sales and to measure the factors that affect sales performance, including shelf share, availability, promotions, pricing and brand presence. Last year, the firm's turnover doubled to EUR 1.5m.

Badescu (pictured), who sold Nielsen a 51% stake in the firm last year, plans to leave at the beginning of 2013, in order to focus on his portfolio of direct marketing, field marketing, online retail and courier businesses. He comments: 'In September, I informed the company of my intention. The future Retailplus will need a CEO who is dedicated 100% in terms of time and concern.'
