GfK Revenue Climbs to EUR 1.5bn

January 30 2013

Preliminary results indicate that GfK's full-year revenue rose 10.2% in 2012, to approximately EUR 1.5bn, with organic growth of 3.1%.

GfK: still growing in troubled timesGrowth of 4.4% was the result of acquisitions, while currency effects contributed 2.7%. Adjusted operating income at EUR 187m is expected to almost match the previous year's level of EUR 187.7m.

Both GfK's Consumer Choices and Consumer Experiences divisions contributed to the increase. Of the total growth of 12.7% in Consumer Experiences, 7.3% related to acquisitions and 2.6% to organic growth, while overall growth in the Consumer Choices sector of 6.5% was in large part organic (3.9%). Revenue from the group's 'Other' business amounted to around EUR 5m, compared with EUR 4.9m in 2011.

By region, GfK said the 29.7% revenue growth in the APAC region was 'particularly positive', with 17.0% generated by organic growth. The second strongest region in terms of organic growth was Latin America, but in Northern Europe, the progress made in the fourth quarter just compensated for revenue declines in the first nine months, leading to an overall organic growth of 0.7%. North America grew 2.9% organically, and due to acquisitions and positive currency effects, overall growth amounted to 33.2% in the region.

GfK has announced separately that it is taking a one-off provision of around EUR 21m relating to irregularities and potential historic tax and social security fraud at its Turkish subsidiary GfK Araştırma Hizmetleri. Adjusted operating income will not be affected; however, the company said that consolidated total income will.

Final full-year results and guidance for the fiscal year 2013 will be published on 12th March.
