comScore Reports Record Revenue in Q4

February 15 2013

comScore has reported record fourth quarter revenue of $68.4m, up 9% over the prior year period. This was driven by growth across its Media Metrix suite of audience measurement tools, which offset declines in its copy testing business.

Dr Magid AbrahamFor the full year 2012, comScore reported a 10% rise in revenue to $255.2m from $232.4m in 2011, while pre-tax losses halved to $9.4m. The firm says that excluding its non-health ad copy testing business - which it is considering selling - and its configuration manager products, 2012 revenue would have increased 13% over 2011 revenue.

President & CEO Dr Magid Abraham (pictured) explained in an earnings conference call: 'We have conducted a thorough review of our product portfolio to prune non-strategic, low-margin offerings. Based on this review, we expect to dispose, in 2013, of the non-health portions of our off-line copy business and to eliminate a Nexius product called Configuration Manager, which requires a lot of customization and is primarily sold in the Middle East.'

These areas aside, during 2012 comScore reported growth in its campaign measurement family of products - including Campaign Essentials and Validated Campaign Essentials - which brought in almost $20m in 2012 bookings; nearly triple the 2011 level. In addition, the firm's Digital Analytix product took bookings of more than $12m, and the Media Metrix audience measurement business grew 17% during the period.

Abraham said he is excited about the progress comScore is making in its transformation from a pure measurement company to a measurement and software-based real-time analytics firm. He also confirmed that the firm is committed to organic growth and has no plans to make any material acquisitions in 2013.

comScore anticipates full year 2013 revenue of between $273.4m and $283.2m, representing a growth of 7% to 11%, with profit or loss before income taxes to be in a range from $8.1m loss to $1.0m income.
