Nielsen Tests Syncbak Mobile TV Tracking

June 5 2013

Nielsen has completed a successful trial using technology developed by mobile streaming provider Syncbak to capture and measure viewing of TV content on mobile devices.

Farshad FamilySyncbak's tools allow local TV stations to stream programing to consumers through their tablets and smartphones. In collaboration with TV broadcaster CBS, one of Syncbak's investors, Nielsen has conducted a tablet and mobile measurement test with four of the broadcaster's TV stations in New York and Los Angeles, and says the results verify that broadcasters can obtain measureable online and mobile viewing using the technology.

Farshad Family (pictured), SVP, Local Media Product Leadership at Nielsen, explained: 'This test was an important step in our commitment to fully measuring television content on mobile and tablet platforms. When it comes to mobile streaming Syncbak is an increasingly important player so we are pleased to demonstrate to the industry that we can count and incorporate their viewing and add it to the existing television metrics.'
